Maldonado is the Soke, Kancho, Founder and Director of the America's Finest Self Defense Academy with locations throughout New York City, Connecticut, North Carolina and Florida.
The following is a brief history of José’s Martial Arts background:
Jose was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico in the Barrio of LLanadas, in 1964 to Jose Maldonado Sr. and Josefina Perez Maldonado. His parents moved from Puerto Rico to the South Bronx (Fort Apache) in 1965 and much later in February of 1977 at the age of Twelve he began his martial arts training.
Dai Shihan Jose Maldonado has been Training in the martial arts since the age of twelve years old. Through his martial arts career he has Traditional Dojo Training with notable martial artists such as Grandmaster William (Billy) Bryant, Shihan Jonas Nunez, Shihan Augustin Marquez, Shidoshi Angel Guerra, Grandmaster Jose A. Velez, Grandmaster Frank Edwards Sr.(POPS) Frank Edwards Jr. (COWBOY), Grandmaster Danny Paulo, Shihan Leonardo "Tito" Cruz, The Renowned Grandmaster O`sensei Reno Morales.
Thru Workshops, and Seminars with Grandmaster Mat Marinas, Grandmaster Remy A. Presas, Grandmaster Guro Dan Inosantos, Grandmaster Bill Wallace, Master Guro Mark (CRAFTYDOG)Denny, Soke Peter Flores, and The Legendary Grandmaster Wildcat Molina.
Master Maldonado holds the Titles of Shinan and Kaiden in Shin Te Ryu, a Menkyo in Jujutsu, a 5th Degree in Escrima, a 4th Degree in Vee Jitsu Jujitsu, a 3rd Degree in Wado Ryu, a 3rd Degree in ITF Tae Kwon Do, a 2nd Degree in Ninjitsu a 2nd Degree in San Te Ryu and a Shodan In Japanese Goju Ryu.
Americas Finest Self Defense Academy is a safe haven for New York City youth, and has been established Since 2004.
