Promotion Procedures

Rank in Shin Te Ryu is not an entitlement; it is an acknowledgement from instructor to student. It can not be bought regardless of dojo dues paid. The Ryu Has established technical guidelines for the instructors to determine how to acknowledge the student's technical ability, effort and maturity level.

Promotion requirements are guidelines for the instructors, and are subject to the instructor's evaluation of the student. They signify the minimum requirements, which must be met for any student to hold that particular rank. The student may request but has no right to be graded.

Shin Te Ryu Grading System

The Shin Te Ryu System uses the Kyu grading system for the Mudansha (non Black Belt ranks) include:

white (10th kyu),  yellow (9th kyu),  orange (8th Kyu),   blue (7th Kyu),  green (6th Kyu),

green with stripe (5th Kyu)  purple(4th Kyu),  purple with stripe (3rd Kyu),  brown (2nd Kyu)

and brown with stripe (1st Kyu),

and the Menkyo Kaiden ranking system for the Yudansha (Black Belt Ranks).
